A Cropped Canvas

IMG_4096One black crop top. A little bit of confidence. Endless possibilities.

In the past, I’ve shown my love for crop tops, how to cut a crop top, but today, I am going to show you how you can take a simple black crop top and transform it into five different looks. My particular top is from none other than Nordstrom, and you can find it here.

The first step for every look, GETCHU SOME CONFIDENCE. I myself am not a size zero, tan and tiny-framed, nor have I ever been. There is no “right” or “wrong” body type for a crop top. Love your body and love yourself! So let’s get into it, shall we?

(I will provide links to items you can find online)

Whether you are on the high-waisted shorts bandwagon or not, this is the easiest look to literally throw on. Because you have a higher waistline, you won’t be exposing too much of that tummy as you would with regular shorts. And, it give this hilarious illusion that maybe my legs are longer than they actually are!

For a “hard-core” look, take a pair of black or denim wash shorts, and wrap a flannel around your waist. This makes the shirt into an accessory, rather than you being reduced to a pile of sweat wearing one in this heat. Also, these nude Steve Madden shoes have me head-over-chunky heels in love. Whether you’re going for casual or cute, these heels are perfect, and wonderfully comfortable.

Look 3:

For expressing your sweet side, pair your top with a circle skirt. This still lets you show a little skin, but also let you walk on the flirty side. My skirt from Victoria’s Secret also features a white Aztec print, another one of my summer time favorite fads. I also added a sparkly statement necklace to jazz it up a bit.

Look 4:

Also in Aztec, these flowy pants from Target really turn heads anywhere I go. I love combining my crop top or black tank to balance my proportions. Also since I am too short for my own pants, even after having them hemmed, I strapped on my platform brown heels, also from Target, to raise them a touch.

Look 5:

Lastly, I had a little fun with these colorful shorts that I got ages ago at H&M that just barely cover my belly button. I also added a thin sweater and monogram necklace to make this into a look I could wear out to dinner or just around town. Gladiator sandals or flats could help dress down the look, but I decided to slip on my Steve Madden heels.

Hope you all enjoyed! Now go out and rock that crop top!

PS–shout out to the mother for the fab pictures!
